Part 1 of 2. Review of the Sega Genesis STREET FIGHTER 2 vs. SNES STREET FIGHTER 2... Classic Game Room starts a war! A 16-bit conflict between the Super Nintendo video game console and the Sega Genesis video game system. Street Fighter 2 by Capcom is one of the greatest fighting games ever made and single handedly brought people back into the arcades in the early 1990's to battle each other in this smooth, stylish 2D fighter. Although SNK and other companies had some fighting games out there, it was Street Fighter 2 that made the biggest splash. Consequently it was ported to the leading game consoles of the time, the Sega Genesis (or Sega Megadrive) and the Super Nintendo SNES. Although they are very similar on both game consoles, there are subtle differences between the two that are fun and interesting to point out in this informative head to head comparison review. Graphics are slightly difference, sound is very different and fortunately the gameplay is similar. Are you a Sega Mega Drive fanatic or an
SNES fanboy... doesn't matter. We can all agree that Street Fighter 2 is awesome and that we're all waiting eagerly for Street Fighter 4 from Capcom. Will Street Fighter 4 see a revival on any Sega game consoles or the Nintendo Wii? Will is be the supreme fighting game on the PS3 Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 game platforms? Who can say, but this look at the 16 bit era is a lot of fun and Street Fighter 2 from Capcom gets a great review from Classic Game Room. Check the footage side by side with out space age computers and editing software.

Both versions are awesome. But if I had to choose, then SNES is better. Genesis comes close, but not as good as SNES. But who cares, MK1 is better on Genesis anyways!

The Sega Genesis version was made closer to the original arcade version of the game. It also played better, because the Sega Genesis has the same CPU most arcade machines had back in the 1990's. The SNES CPU while good for graphic effects, was much slower that the Genesis CPU.

wrong, the genesis had only about 90 colors, while snes had a full 256 colour palete. the only side where the genesis was better was the cpu speed

why the hell did they change street fighter 4 to 3d they should have stuck with 2d and just made it a lil more modern because the artwork they can do on 2d will always look better then 3d plus 2d fighting is so much funner and they didnt even put fei long in it! =(

Having the same CPU has nothing to do with 'playability'. Where do people get this idea from? Gameplay comes from 'logic and timing', really slow timing - less than 60 times a second.

Super Nintendo has a more powerful sound card than the Genesis. Orchestral compositions sound amazing on the SNES. A great example of this can be found in the soundtrack of Chrono Trigger. It also depends on how you use the chip. The soundtrack for the original Sonic The Hedgehog trilogy kicked major ass.

Strangely.. if audio should be compared, the Snes version sounds better in quality, though the Sega Genesis' background music is more Arcade accurate.
