Pretty underappreciated band, they do have a lot of fans but I think they don't get the recognition they deserve for their talents. Hopefully the recent songs in RB and GH will broaden their audience.

Metallica can't pull off 23 minute long songs with such grace and fluidity as Dream Theater does do they? And no one in metallica is as technically skilled as anyone in Dream Theater.
sure, they were influenced by metallica in some aspects of their music, but, overall, they give metallica a beating. they actually covered the entire Master of Puppets album. take a listen to it....poser.

actually metallica could pull off a 23 minute. they just havent made a good album since 1988. they could easily play a 20 minute orion or to live is to die. they just dont. and they play different music. metallica is the 80s thrash master. hammet, hatefield and ulrich as just as good as the people in dream theatre. they have different style. you cannot really compare them. their cover of master was good because it was just like metallica. but the vocals sucked on the video in the related videos.
