Kruger National Park, Shingwedzi, December 2006. A lioness caught a buffalo and struggled for 6 hours to kill it. While it happened, an elephant came, chased the lioness away and showed compassion towards the buffalo. The lioness ate the buffalo alive.

It looks like the elephant did good, but what will probably happen is that the buffalo will die of exhaustion and wounds and possibly the lion will also starve.

It is strange that the buffalo never uses its weight advantage to trample or roll over on to the lion. The elephant and the lion are natural enemies which is why the elephant gets mad and goes after the lion. That leaves elephant and sitting buffalo. I don't think buffalos and elephants eat one another, do they? The elephant is just pissed and kicks some sand at someone smaller - that's no compassion it's disdain. Anthropomophising these events with music doesn't change anything.

To me it looks very clear that the elephant is agitated by the presence of both animals and clearly charges (not only the lioness but also) the buffalo! (The elephant is flapping it's ears und also trumpeting. An elephants's compassion looks different)

I think he threw sand on the ox to cool it down as it must've been exhausted. Or maybe it wanted to approach the Ox and offer help but the ox was threatening to attack, because it was under a great deal of stress and must've been agitated, and so the elephant threw sand in order to prevent the ox from charging.

The elephant think out a bit and his conclusions were obviuosly to heal the oax wounds with a powerful healing power: Sand.
