i liked it but not much chance of a stick fight for me. im looking for a art to study. im having trouble with a gang and im afraid for me and my wife. it is possible we will be targeted again. I have big health issues with my feet and legs, so most of my strength is upper body. iwould prefer a style that lets me control and munipulate the oponents body without having to throw punches if possible. got any advice?

kempo one of the more practical martial arts there is you won't be jumping around like a gymnast on speed like in tkd kenpo teaches you how to deal with many attackers at once armed attackers just cause you won't see it on the ufc does not make it any less effective people like you need to remember martial was about staying alive before they became a sport i doubt you would Larry Tatum that his shit does not work to his face.

Well for one thing, I know Skip personally, and as impressed as I am with Larry Tatum, I think that the only reason Larry could beat Skip is because Larry is a lot younger and a lot faster and stronger, but in terms of knowledge of the art, Larry knows a lot, Skip knows a hell of a lot more.

Larry is a lot younger? How old is Skip? A secretery is a succesor to Mr. Parker's art?!?! I have seen both Skip and Larry in person, come on. Glad you like him, I personally don't have an issue with him either. But succesor? LOL

officially, yes.
There are certain aspects of the art that Mr. Parker kept secret from most of his students and only taught to a few of them, not including Larry Tatum. Parker's top three students according to him were Skip Hancock, Paul Mills, and Mike Pick. Larry Tatum was up there amongst the top but he was not as accomplished and as prestigious in the art as the other three. I study the art under my teacher who learns Kenpo from Skip, and Small-circle jujitsu from David Castoldi.

Wow!!! More people believe this nonsense than I thought! Ed Parker taught secret stuff... I guess the Flames demo was "secret" Kenpo? Glad I didn't learn that then. And when did Ed Parker tell you those were his top three? How old are you and where are you getting this info?

But needless to say that this info is fairly reliable, I won't say 100% cuz I could always be wrong, but I guess I should really go back to the root of what I said in the first place and recant that.
I said that Larry Tatum was one of those self promoted black belts, but I know that's not true. My real meaning is that he wasn't among the top, but he's recognizable enough to have his story published in "The Journey"

You still didn't say how much older Skip is than Larry ;-)) Think about something, when did he start training with Parker? Waaay later than Larry. I know many people who were in LA at that time, who will laugh at your statements. Why is it that people who came in at the end, for a few years, make up stories of secret lessons, private, exclusive instruction, "updated" info, etc. Mr. Parker taught Kenpo to all, people chose to see things differently. And, he was good at manipulating people!

;-)) Yeah, he surely was... Helped him put the manuals together as well, you probably believe! He started training in Kenpo with Jack Oiler (sp) according to his OWN story in the Journey. But you keep believing all that. That's why he is so booked for seminars, everyone wants to train with the succesor. Good Kenpo journey to you...

You don't have to carry sticks around all of the time.I live in a poorer neighborhood where it's no problem finding sticks,branches or scrap wood that can be used as a stick.You have to think
outside of the box.
