Mario Paint Composer: Zelda Mabe Village Follow Step-by-step
Uploaded by: axelrod777
Video Description:
I decided I would do something different this time. This time, I recorded everything. Everything I did to compose Mabe Village from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. I sped it up 2x to avoid monotony, and added a song.
Song: The Bagel Song
Go to about 5:10 for the finished piece if you don't feel like watching the whole thing.
Yes I know it's simple and not very fancy, but if I did one of my big, epic pieces I wouldn't be able to fit the whole composition process onto one video. I chose a small and recognisable tune from a great game.
An analysis to help newcomers and those interested:
At about 0:03 I listen to a midi I downloaded of the song to get the rough tempo, and I make a simple beat and alter the tempo to about what it should be.
At 0:29 I start to construct the melody using the sheet music. I used MidiNotate Player (or Notation Player) to convert a midi to readable sheet music.
At 0:36 I calculate and fix the tempo then proceed with the melody.
At 1:38 I listen to the melody to make sure it sounds right, then continue with the melody.
At 2:15 I realize that the melody goes up to a high D, which does not exist, so I try to see what sounds good. I settle for a low D and listen again to make sure it sounds right.
At 2:43 I tweak the melody to fill in empty space by adding cars to hold the notes longer.
At 3:14 I start adding the background part.
At 3:40 I decide to bring the background up an octave so it can be heard better (and there is no low A, which is required).
At 4:27 I take a final listen.
At 4:54 I save.
At 5:10 you can hear the finished product.

Basically, a Midi file is comprised of multiple tracks that make up the music, and Notation Player brings up sheet music displaying the arrangement of all of the notes in each individual track that makes up the midi file.
I know its a bit repetitive, but it's a catchy tune, lol.
and i love the Background music lol
Wait... I wonder if it's possible to duplicate speech by arranging certain instruments in a certain way on Mario Paint...
(the bagel song was great too)
