It was pretty innovative with the scene with long silence, and then a loud noise. But nowadays, every American horror movie uses that way too much. I don't count startling moments as scary moments. Modern horror really needs to move on to something else, because they have ruined that technique. I guess today's horror movie makers can't come up with their own scary ideas, so they just try to startle the audience at every turn with loud noises.
