they ctually brought the carpenters back to popularity. At the time, many people didn't really respect the Carpenters, especially Karen. Sonic Youth sort of squashed that feeling.

anyone can drone, he is just talking into that microphone like someone who just woke up. nobody is doubting his musical talent because he did in fact have a record deal after all, but it is true that talent to one person is shit to another and his singing is definitely not the greatest.

I respect the fact they're doing a tribute to Karen but what the heck was that. He was just trying tooo hard to be different and instead the singing was dumbed down. If you're gonna do a tribute do a version that equals or surpasses.
