Man, Dex has such a way of saying things on the horn. Its something that one can't put into words very well. I don't know how he does it, but all I know is that I LOVE it. 5 stars

The clearest, most sparkling tone I've heard in a sax.

Cexter may not play the super fast stuff like Brecker, but all his stuff is perfectly laid out. In my opinion he's like the Miles Davis of Tenors. Plus he's got a great clean tone.

I always thought the sax player in my band was the best at jazz. Until I saw this video.
Now I know there are two guys who can blow like that! See "Exception to the Gruel" at my youtube page.

unless your saxophone player is Dex, or trane, or Bird, he most assuredly will not be the best..

Who said it was? I am merely saying that he wouldn't have been the same person nor same player/creative artist without them. That's a fact, regardless of any conventional piety you can throw around, (aka. "it's not about the drugs") .

there is sort of a sloppy lazyness nihilistic attitude in dexters dexters tone.

It's always great to discover new music. Please listen to the following before telling the world about your horn man: Sonny Rollins, Ben Webster, Lester Young, Lucky Thompson, Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, Phil Woods, Stan Getz, Michael Brecker, Roland Kirk, Jan Garbarek, Roscoe Mitchell, Henry Threadgill, Ari Brown, Von Freeman, Bud Freeman, Joe Farrell, Lew Tabackin, Ornette Coleman, James Clay, Canonball Adderly, Albert Ayler, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy. That's a start!

drugs don't make you creative, they make you think you're creative, all the greatest geniuses were best when they weren't high
Well, is that a ... ( 2 months ago by jpwjr1199)
Well, is that a fact? Then, you obviously don't know much about Dexter Gordon (high on pot fairly constantly), Charlie Parker(heroin, high onstage a lot), nor Louis Armstrong for that matter.(the forefather of jazz smoked grass all the time on and offstage). Whether I, personally, would recommend drugs is a different story, but, if you don't think drugs has ANY effect on ones creativity, then you've never done them or you're deluding yourself into believing it. It ain't PC to say, but true.

Array ( 2 months ago by Chameleon102)
Not true.
The Beatles, Hendrix, Dexter...the list goes on and on and on. Drugs have had an undeniably positive effect on the creative arts. Probably not so much on the artists themselves, but that's another story.
