My comments are directed in this post towards McGuicken and ralphyboy. As to Northern Ireland well sorry but it'll still be ours for a long time yet. If any of the Northern Irelanders really wanted to be Irish they'd have done seriously done something about it by now. I am proud of being English and British (I see them both differently) and England is just the best country in the world. But this song is British really, so Rule Britannia!

I must say I have to agree with you there completely and utterly. It appears that the Cold War is starting again and places like Russia, China, India and other nations in Asia can be very dangerous when they turn to expansionism.

I also have to say that I have great admiration for America and the American people. I was annoyed about Tony Blair's consistent sayings of standing 'shoulder to shoulder' with America over anything especially the Iraq War as any proud Briton would (and vice versa). But the relationship between the UK and the US is very special indeed and many countries can only dream of having. I hope it lasts for many years yet. There may come a time when our armies march together again to save the world.

England's Royal family are basely King/Queen of the world, there is no other prominent royal family still existing like ours, she is queen in many commonwealth states. Also the German Royal Family is (was) very close to ours, Kiezser Whilem was Queen victoria's first born Grandchild, shows how close they are.

I beleave its because Kiezser Whilem was Queen Victoria's first grandchild. So even though its not there royal family they still are loyal to the monarchy as if it was there own because of the very close connections to there old Monachy, that's why orginaly Hitler liked the UK because of our Monarchy(that soon changed)

The title is incorrect. The words of the song say "Britannia Rule the Waves". Not "Rules". Thus asking the gods to protect our shores from invaders. Good old Britannia did her work well in thwarting the plans of those pesky Spaniards and their Armada. She cooked up a good old British storm and kept them at bay.

The last night of the proms is probably the most good natured musical event in the world. I think that it is great to see the flags of other nations waving and people joining in the singing. I would happily sing The Star Spangled Banner, Land of My Fathers, Scotland the Brave. Or any other anthem and share in the joy and pride of other nations. I am English and I will apologise to no-one for being so. To those who point an accusing finger at us. Look at your hand, three fingers point at you.

Those former rivals have much better relations with the UK now. I've seen in other prom videos the Red Ensign (old)/Flag of the Canadian Federation (new) flying as well as Quebecois (why this is is beyond me), Nova Scotian, and Ontarian flags (hard to make out along with the Red Ensign and all the other ones with a Quarter-Jack in the corner)

Great hymn to Britain, the land of my ancestors. Even we Yanks sing along heartily celebrating this "Sceptered Realm" from whom we have inherited so much of our law, art, literature, political values.
