The dog is treated very well by being talked to and handled gently. When we study disease in animals, we are moving toward saving human lives. That does NOT mean animal lives are not valuable, but if you've ever had a relative die of a disease for which we are close to developing a cure, you might understand it better. I have NEVER know any researcher to be mean to an animal. We treat them as kindly as is possible. If your mother were dying of cancer, and this could help, how would you feel?

The needles are very tiny, animals don't appear to even feel them. If you have a sick dog or cat, your vet may need to draw blood sometime, and you'll find the animal rarely even flinches. You'd rather we continue to have all our relatives and friends die from Alzheimer's, cancer, autoimmune diseases, and many more, upon which we are making huge progress by studying similar diseases in animals? Visit a childhood cancer ward, and tell me you don't feel anything and still want research stopped.

Repeated shocks, poisoning, inoculation with deadly diseases, submersion, freezing and unfreezing, starvation, live dissection... You think that, just because they aren't humans, it's okay? It is NOT painless-during these procedures, the animals aren't usually even given painkillers. Plus, humans and animals are biologically different-results in rats and dogs and monkeys aren't going to be the same in humans.
