Film theory says your opening scene should in some way reflect the story you're about to tell (Terminator 2's burning playgound is a great example) and from the opening shot here we get the message "Holy crap, some bad sh*t is about to happen!". Vision and maybe more importantly sound gives us the message of impending doom, yet all it is a car traveling on some picturesque locations. Brilliant!
