How to handle a tarantula 1

Uploaded by: ChiVampir
Video Description:
Basic rules:
* Do not handle aggressive species; this method is only for handling calm tarantulas
* Do not handle the tarantula if you're affected by an intoxicant
* Do not handle the tarantula before a molt, or when it's eating
* Do not place the tarantula in your face, it can kick of to kick urticating hairs off their abdomens, and you don't want them in your eyes
* Stay calm!
* Place the tarantula back in it's cage if it seems nervous or angry

dont handle it! ... ( 7 months ago by BinaryPulse)
dont handle it! this is its natural threat posture. it will do this to anything it sees as a threat and may want to hurt it.. I have a spider like that: B. Vagans.. she can be a bitch. but give him/her time and maybe they will come around.. its not normal for a G.Rosea to do that! or your B. Smithi also! they are normally such docile creatures.. give them time and pay them some attention. they will get used to it at some point

That definitely worked, I started to get comfortable touching it, and it gradually became calm to where it wouldn't mind if I touched it, so I tried putting my hand in front of it, and it put its legs up, just to feel around. Before I knew it, it was on my hand lol.

I rarely handle my tarantulas, most of them have never been handled (if you don't count moving them in a box to a new terrarium when needed). But I like to have one handleable individual since I help people to get rid of their arachnophobia. Hope you feel that we understand each other now.

Isn't the Salmon Pink an aggressive species?
Well, technically ... ( 4 months ago by KirbyStyle2)
Well, technically its not aggressive but it is known to be a nervous species. Its much more docile than the damn Goliath Birdeater. Thats why most people prefer the Salmon pinks cause they get close to the size of Goliaths and they are cheaper.

No, sometimes this just indicates that a molt is around the corner ;) Often you will see a that the bald spot turns black because of the new hairs under the old skin. But a bald spot can also indicate that it's nervous and not comfortable with the terrarium.

Sometimes, if the bald spot has turned black it indicates that a molt is soon around the corner ;) Be aware that a bald spot also can indicate that the tarantula is nervous, and not comfortable in it's environment. Or it can indicate that it has been scared and tried throw it's hairs against the scary thing.

To barcodeNINETEEN--
I have a chilean rose hair aswell. If you just got the tarantula, do NOT start handling it. It won't be used to its habitat yet. If you wear cloth gloves, the bite will go through. Leather may harm their fangs, but their fangs could go through. Wait a few weeks before handling them. Try touching them on their back legs gently to show them no harm. Mine's a female. I think the males are a tad chubbier, but I'm not an expert.

Good advice! This was a good video.

Oh, I've had it for a while now. I started to touch his back legs, and then his abdomen, (on the second day) which I shouldn't have, Lol. I wore those plastic-ish gloves you use to wash dishes with, Lol. Then I started to handle Kittin on the third day, he's really gentle etc. He's so gentle that he wouldn't even devour his live food in front of me, I've never seen him eat before! :( But yeah :) Have your's molted yet?
