Basic rules:
* Do not handle aggressive species; this method is only for handling calm tarantulas
* Do not handle the tarantula if you're affected by an intoxicant
* Do not handle the tarantula before a molt, or when it's eating
* Do not place the tarantula in your face, it can kick of to kick urticating hairs off their abdomens, and you don't want them in your eyes
* Stay calm!
* Place the tarantula back in it's cage if it seems nervous or angry

I have a chilean rose hair aswell. If you just got the tarantula, do NOT start handling it. It won't be used to its habitat yet. If you wear cloth gloves, the bite will go through. Leather may harm their fangs, but their fangs could go through. Wait a few weeks before handling them. Try touching them on their back legs gently to show them no harm. Mine's a female. I think the males are a tad chubbier, but I'm not an expert.
