I'm a Black woman. I've never had trouble with my weight; I'm naturally thin (but still exercise). I agree, though, that obesity is an epidemic in the US, but the problem is more prominent in the Black community here,
we need to talk about it and take action. Obesity is bad for ones health
adversely impacts one's lifespan. It's a sad reality that it also decreases one's attractiveness to potential mates. Soul food is good
all - but in *moderation.* We need to encourage daily exercise too.

I chalk the higher rate of obesity in our community up to poverty (junk food is cheapest), culture (soul food is fattening), time (statistically, black women are more likely to work two jobs
may not have less time for exercise), racism (it leads to depression which leads to self-medicating),
excuses (we say BW are naturally fat :\). None of this, however, is an excuse. Those of us who don't need to learn to love ourselves enough to care about having a long life and looking our best.

Most foods that are pre-made that you buy from the store have saturated fat and virtually no nutrition or vitamins in it. The less vitamins you have in your body the more you will crave in order to try to get those vitamins in your body. That could be part of what the problem that can lead to someone to obesity that I can think of. Another thing, it could be inbalances in the body, some people who have thyroid problems can lead them to obesity. So sometimes it's just not the food.

i'm trying to lose weight and eat healthy as well. i wasn't always overweight, i used to work at a rec center for goodness sake! lol right b4 i came to college i worked there for the summer and worked out. when i came to college i abandoned the gym(so ashamed) im 5-7 at 190 and oh so ashamed... now my endurance is just bad....i slowly but surely let my weight get outta hand.
my bf and i are gonna run together or something so we can have a better "quality of life" yeah, that's it..... lol

I feel you. I'ma blackman who works out all the time. Now I like my sistaz to be a lil thick but the dunlap'd disease is not cute. I repeat not cute. I always see white girls out jogging or swift walking and the sistaz only walk, when their going to the corner store to get junk food.
