The only #1 hit for Nelson Riddle in the Rock era. Also, Capitol's 3rd #1 hit in the Rock era. Definitely a big band tune. When I hear a song like this, I always think back to the Happy Days episode where Fonzie was bemoaning the popularity of folk music that was taking over his beloved rock 'n' roll. Howard Cunningham told him that changes are a part of life. He said when Rock Around the Clock hit #1, he knew the big band era had ended. The look in Richie's eyes said it all.

We don't have pop instrumentals any longer because 2 generations of 'listeners' do not understand the language of music. With 'lyrics', they are lost. It takes very little skill to grunt or shout into a microphone.

My Dad loved this song. It was always played on our record player as a kid growing up. My Dad said he always remembered coming home from the war in Korea and hearing this played on the radio. It was a massive hit.

I loved and still do like instrumentals. You can't hear them anymore on the radio. I may not really like Big Band, yet I respect it because if it wasn't for it there would be no Rock n Roll.
