Rhiannon is the name of a Welsh goddess. Nicks started writing this after reading the book Triad by Mary Leader. It is about a woman who believes she is being possessed by the spirit of a woman named Rhiannon.
The Goddess Rhiannon rode a white horse and traveled with 3 birds that had healing powers. She introduced this in concerts as being about a Welsh witch. In interviews, she said Rhiannon was a good witch.

I've always crying when I'm watching this song on the dvd...and Edge Of Seventeen also...I just can't stop 'cause Stevie were, and of corse still IS, the best and most true woman I've ever seen!!!!
