This is astounding footage right from a Nicolai Gogol novel only it's MDM walking through arias with us as witnesses. MDM shows more imagination and drama in these short snippets than any singer to walk onto an opera stage. I haven't a clue as to what he was saying but the piece is fantastic theatre and he knew it! Mario Del Monico was a very smart man. Thanks for posting this!

This video could almost look funny if looked at lightly. But if observed with reverence, we should see the amazing intensity and great immersion of the wonderful Del Monaco in his artistry. When will we have these kind of singers again? Will we ever?

Stupendous! I've always loved the voice, and it seems the man behind it was just as marvellous. Only MdM could pull off a villa lined with portraits of himself (with Otello naturally taking pride of place - apparently he was buried in his Otello costume, tights and all.) And that is certainly the best 'Ridi, pagliaccio' EVER!
I just wish I could have met him.

The prize goes to the pool scene where Mario does gymnastics while singing Esultate at 7:00 am - but all of a sudden is overcome by his titanic impulse and has to hurl the heavy chair to the waters!

Is this a parody or what?... I really hope so because if not, then this is the most ridiculous thing I´ve ever seen. If he was like that, then he was so full of himself and I would feel sorry for those who had to live next to him. Sorry, but his video is ridiculous!

Ascolta carlo 331 nessuno vuole minacciarti ritengo però che tu sappia che Del Monaco è stato il più grande tenore della storia del bel canto. Quanto hai visto nel filmato in particolare, la sequanza della piscina, fa parte di un copione che la RAI (per esaltare il personaggio) gli ha fatto recitare. Ti invito ad ascoltare Del Monaco, ne trarrai beneficio. Grazie per avermi letto

This is definitely NOT parody. Watch carefully how serous he is: he sings along with the record, but does not do foolish things, he sings certain passages an octave lower to protect his voice. He practices the stage movement. He relaxes listening to instrumental music, which is more soothing than vocal music for the nerves. He whispers while relaxing in order to protect his voice.
There is some PR here showing him in great shape, but that is not the essential part.

What a puffed up old ham he was! lol. & certainly a character. I was surprised though, listening to him singing in his drawing room, in a more realistic setting, where it is easy to judge vocal size, how very much smaller his singing voice is than is often assumed. There is no way on earth that anyone could stay in a drawing room with Francesco Tamagno singing! - The squillo & upper harmonics would literally burst your eardrums.
