Dumbledore vs Voldemort with my own original score

Uploaded by: AlexSmithMusic
Video Description:
'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' contains, in my opinion, the greatest fight scene in the series: Albus Dumbledore vs Lord Voldemort. But when the movie came out, it was not as exciting as it could have been, mostly because the scene did not have music.
This is my own original orchestral score for this scene. I hope you enjoy it, and please leave comments! : )

I preferred the sound effects alone in the movie (they made it seem more brutal) but i like your score too! You should do more HP-score's, maybe the Order VS the Death Eaters?

I will continue to write music for movie scenes, but I think I'll take a break from Harry Potter. I'm just finishing up a cartoon of a scene from the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and writing a score for it, so I'm all Harry Potter'd out. : )

I think music distracts the scene too much. The silence adds alot of tension that music just does not achieve.
Whilst I like your score for the scene, I think the scene works much better without music as it seems to me to be more urgent and tense.

wow this is really professional sounding! while i guess i sort of agree with the comment below that this scene has a special effect becuase of its silence, it works maybe just as well with this music. It sounds great as it is, but with a real orchestra it would sound like it was doubt actually part of the movie! The things i particularly like about it are the sudden change in harmony from the EGBC chord to the CDbFG chord at 0:18- it's realllly affective and it sounds like John Williams. speakin

g of John williams, that chord reminds me alot of one from the intro of the first star wars score. but HE took that from The Planets so anything goes.
also when dumbledore conjures the water stuff from like 1:07 to 1:20 the music really portrays both the quality of the water (the harp really makes it) and the fact that dumbledore has made a good move (through the beautiful melody, and the major harmony/ modulations, as opposed to the modulations through minor chords/modulations before)

and another thing! while at first i didnt really understand what you what you did at :45 and leading up to it. but now i feel it. the sudden D and the brief subsequent hault in the rhythmic drive really accentuate dumbledore's holy****-ness that he must be feeling when voldemort whips out the huge fire dragon. also the female voices around 1:21 add a magical touch to go along with the magic you see dumbledore/voldemort doing. also i love how the last chord seems to get swept away by that

chilling wind. i dont know if you meant for that but its a nice little touch! this whole thing has powerful harmony/rhythms/melody/surprises... not to mention a good structure! despite the frequent modulations it retains a strong sense of C minor.
at :19, that dissonant chord sets off the fight scene, and the same chord but with G in the bass wraps it up (1:30 to 1:38)! which leads perfectly to that "resolution" Fifth of CG. great job you should send this in to warner brothers with a long lett

I played each part on a keyboard with a 6-track sequencer, so there was no program involved. (I used iMovie to put it all together, but no program for the music writing.)
So, the music you hear is me playing a keyboard with synth sounds.

I was worried about using John Williams' themes, because people might think it was a rip off, but i arranged them myself and worked the theme into my score as best as i could.
I think this is my favorite score. It's also the longest, and was the most fun!
