Thanks presopres, good to get some support here. Isn't it interesting that we are using polite language, no ad hominem attacks, giving our opponents here the benefit of the doubt and using logical arguments. As you say, it's the *facts* that count, and islamists can't stand it when the west starts knowing the facts.

she was sentenced becz despite being married to someone else she chose t go out with this man who she was not related to and put herself in a situation; where she could be taken advantage of; in short she behaved like a western women who like to flirt with many; she should v divorced and married anyone of her choice; sadly crstnty dosnt allows divorse

what the heck is 'western people', i find it amusing people use words like 'western' to create some sort of separate identity when there isn't any. the 'west' whatever that means is just as diverse as anywhere else in the world.

la-la, by Western, in this case, I mean 'non-muslim'. I am referring to your tendancy to deny or sugar-coat areas of Islam that you know would be offensive to non-muslims(such as institutionally sanctioned wife-abuse or the disparity in rights between Muslim men and women) in order to continue to propogate Islam as a 'religion of peace'.

You are changing the subject. What do you find desirable about the system in Sharia:
"The Saudi woman is guilty. She is guilty of being born in a male-dominated society. Her fault is that she grows up in a society that stigmatizes her sex as a sin. She is held accountable because society believes she is underage - even if she is in her 60s -and implements a guardianship system over her as if she were a second-class citizen"

islamic law is not being applied as it should be in the muslim countries. we need an islamic state with only one system where the devine rules are properly implemented. please brothers and sisters, try to keep allah's law only and discard the western values. we should try to see islam as a whole rather then judging an individual rule as sister nasreen says.

If sharia recognizes women as equal to a male, then why does the Saudi Daily Arab News contain the following in an op-ed:
"It is very common for a Saudi woman - a widow or a divorcee - to have her young son as her guardian, and she needs his written permission to carry out official paperwork. He is in control of her life and her destiny." That doesn't sound like equality to me.

wstrn values and islamic values:these are the two ideologies only surviving in the world now.one is here to protect the rights of an individual and another to protect the whole society. there is not a single islamic country present in the world now,i can't show you an example. exactly like terrorism,muslims everywhere now misapplying the shariya.shariya says all muslims should be united under one government;this is the head rule of the shariya.

western values are the offspring of the western intellectual heritage. For the most part this is a greco-roman system. In fact most of western institutions of learning, finance and politics have greco-roman origins. That is not to say that, as with all things, the lines can't get blury. Turkey and many parts of eur-asia being prime examples of this. But yes, there are "western" values.

I think that we hear broken records of how Saudi and Iran are 'Islamic states' implementing the sharia that is called for by groups. Simply put they are not Islamic states, they are a Persian state and an Arab state using Islam when they want it and not using it as they see fit. Any objective study of the two states would prove this beyond doubt.

Bottom line - Western people do NOT want Islamic values forced on us. If people want to live under sharia, then they need to live in countries where this is practiced. Don't come to the West insisting on sharia laws here. You have the right to live here and worship, only as far as it does not impose on others. That is part of our value system and our law in the West. Live with it or leave.
