The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - 03 Masters Of War

Uploaded by: CompleteUnkn0wn
Video Description:
Masters Of War
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

A total classic...yet, relevent to today. This song is 45 years old and it still speaks to the modern age. I hope Bob Dylan will continue to write songs until the day he passes away. He is a wonderful gift to humanity.

If it is true good to know it, but I thought, John was talking about Robert Zimmerman. You said that it is all about Murray Zimmerman, but it doesnt make any sense...
Why? Every line of 'God' have inside something about Gods or something about religions (in general)- mantra, gita, Elvis(he was the first god of rock n roll) and in the and Bob Dylan (HE IS GOD of music). Of course it is only my opinion.
Peace

Of course John was talking about Dylan. Either buymche is screwing with you or he's very confused.

no thanks. he made no error in his ways, this song is brilliant and his feelings of vengence are righteous and the scum that start wars and murder innocent people do indeed deserve to die, but even death is not good enough for scum like that. and dont come at me with some christian forgiveness crap, i dont believe in jesus. but i think we can both agree this song is beautiful and dylan is a genius. cheers.
It's true that ... ( 4 months ago by DaRandom90)
It's true that Dylan wants this man's death. I don't think he cares that there are wars out there, just that this man or these men don't fight or help. They just watch. You can hear in the song that Dylan is mad that they start the wars and don't give a damn about them dieing just as long as they don't have to percipitate. That's what he's mad at. Not war, but those who start it and don't fight in it.

John was influenced big time by Dylan- He knew that he was in the presence of someone special when he first met him. I dont know if the line about Zimmerman was about Bob, but by the time Lennon wrote that ,there might have been some jelousy & he did have an ego

I've seen The Roots twice by chance at concert festivals in the last 2 years, and both times they've covered this, with a tuba, drums, and guitar. It's rather epic. Definitley not better, but epic none the less.
Read up on his ... ( 2 months ago by 4boardsandapassion)
Read up on his career - he was bored with protesters. Instead, he was trying to present a view of the world in a destructive state, like DaRandom states.
Dylan wasn't a protest singer, he just commented on what he felt needed talking about, about human life. However it impacts you is great, but if you call Dylan a protest singer, you discount nearly forty years and twenty years worth of introspective music.
Look at his whole career and you'll see patterns emerge...

Does it matter what ... ( 3 weeks ago by istillremember6)
Does it matter what the point of the song is? I mean, I really think it should be about what the listener interprets it as. To me, the fact that he was able to write such lyrics on the subject is enough to know he must have agreed on some level. Whether or not he was protesting, his emotions are clear through the lyrics.
