I saw these dudes one time on Las Ramblas who were dressed like devils.. So he comes over to me and I gave him a quarter from the US... He bit it to see if it was real and threw it back at me LOL

You feel sorry for them? They're like any busker, most of them are probably doing it more because they love it than because they have to. The reason people become human statues is the same reason anyone commits to any artistic pursuit - they'd rather do it and barely scrape by (or, being more realistic, often not scrape by at all) than work a 9 to 5.

i work as a living statue in Tampa Bay area of Florida. I make a very good living out of it...I've worked trade shows, festivals and charities. We do put an enormous amount of work into costumes and props. I'm amazed at the tips that the Europeans get as apossed to the American tips. they do this i argentina as well and i can tell you alot are people who do it for fun and to raise money for comunity lunch rooms that make sure thousands of children get three meals a day. As for barcelona i dont know but they might have similar goals

Why on earth would anyone feel sorry for these people? I have been there before and it looks like so much fun. The people who are performing get to dress up and have fun, and the tourist get to enjoy something out of the ordinary.
