The Arab League's annual summit is taking place in Damascus. But some countries are boycotting the event, accusing Syria of meddling in Lebanese politics. Sir David is joined by Jihad Makdissi, a spokesman for the Syrian Embassy in London, who says the summit is about the Arab people and not Syria. Also in this part of the show, Sir David talks to David Frum, a US political analyst, about John McCain, the Republican candidate in the US elections.

I have a great dislike of the Syrian govt, but this petty squabbling and divisiveness the Egyptians and Saudis are pulling is ridiculous. If they have a problem with Syria, they must confront Syria about this, like what Qatar is doing. We cannot afford to blind and incompetent anymore. The Arabs are at a time when they need unity and cooperation the most.

i'm not an arab, but am interested in Arab politics and am studying Arabic currently.
from my point of view, it's really regrettable that many Arab nations boycotted the summit after KSA, a "messenger of the U.S.", called their neighbours not to visit Damascus.
really sad cause the Arab unity was dispersed only by the American power and a few sovereignity decisions by several nations.
the lack of unity could be the largest weakness toward the enemy, i guess.
