Mariska Veres might have sung the English lyrics phonetically, but the Shocking Blue landed this single at # 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970 (Bananarama only went only to # 6 in 1986 with the remake despite their English fluency). Shocking Blue has got it.
