I'm 58 and this guy was a hero of mine--when I got into blues/r & b singing in my little local groups, I thought if this 5'4" guy can belt like that, this 5'7" cat can too. He also influenced my "day job" as a dialectologist--I couldn't understand a thing he said at a concert, and moved on to study Geordie (& Scots)--met some people who knew him from his Kansas City Five days, too, on my research trips! Got all his early, and some later albums--he's still wild & good.

I think that's the tremolo on his amp set to sound like trips...or sixteenths, maybe even. Not that it would take away from the genius of Hilton Valentine in any case. The fuzz box was still fairly cutting-edge at the time, & coupling it with tremolo was very edgy.

Let's not forget the Small Faces. But there was so great a wealth of good music from the 60s, we could probably go on all night haha. I agree that the Animals were vastly underrated.
