After regaining ... ( 4 months ago by Irratzo)
After regaining breath again (".. because the other characteristic of bass sound is that you can't tell where it's coming from!") I suddenly realized what Adams is doing here. He is using humour to sensitise us for endangered species.
Yeah, I know, great observation. But: how do you think did he make this whole thing? Did he think, okay, these animals concern me and I'm actively gonna use my humour powers!
Or did he just tumble into this stuff and then realised how sad, funny, educational it is?

What a great orator, able to speak at such length without notes or props or losing his place, and always interesting.
Just brilliant.

But mind you, I dont have to go to "my ends of the world" to have witness this feeling Adams described in seeing the Aye-aye. When I just go out my door and see a swallowtail, it's the same, or a shiny in the undergrowth of which I do not know the name, or a Knabenkraut (an European orchid). But alas, I don't do it so often nowadays.

well the simple answer to the "need" for new things although we already got them right,is economy (stupid).how are you gonna make money? you have to make people THINK that they arent satisfied anymore by what they have, its just not enough anmore.its simple laws of free market.you need variety and plenty of completely unnecessary items in order to preserve this overconsuming society we have built.the funny thing is,we love it so much that we would sacrifice the whole planet for it.

Sorry badelf99, actually it is a reason for us to think about how the ideology of theists has led us to believe the world, etc. was made for us... and that we can do with it what we will for our own benefit only... Sorry! Douglas Adams was an atheist. A "radical atheist," in fact.
