Jazz guitar virtuoso Russell Malone gives a rare solo performance at the New York Guitar Festival's second biennial Guitar Marathon at the 92nd Street Y's Kaufman Auditorium, January 25, 2004. Perhaps best known for his work with Diana Krall, Malone began with Jimmy Smith and also worked with Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera, B.B. King, David Sanborn, Harry Connick, Jr. to name a few.

This guitarist is a master at what he does. His solo jazz guitar work is so perfect...and the tone is so sublime. The harmonics are breathtaking...truly a gifted player worthy of notice and respect.

Its kind of ignorant to say that Russell Malone is known for playing with Diana Krall. The only guitarist that got famous that way is Anthony Wilson.

It is also an interesting fact that Diana Krall did not get nominated for a Grammy until Russell started recording with her -- three consecutive albums -- the third one, "When I Look In Your Eyes" won for 1999 Vocal Jazz Album, and was the first jazz album to be nominated for Album of The Year since George Benson's "Breezin." (1976-which won that year.)
