I was taught in grade school it was the War Between the States, not the Civil War, meaning the Confederacy had seceded.
I always sided with the South, even though Northern born, because what the South did represents what ALL nations should do about tyranny.

The war was NOT fought over slavery. but tariffs and laws. The South was true to the original set up of this nation! Strong state govt and militias would keep the country from being attacked, Each states' army has to be overcome in order to completely invade and take over the US. The South's attempt to correct what happened to the development of the government of the US should not be erased from our history.

Wide swaths of US history, more than 100 years, should be flushed out of toilet if the South's behaviour were deemed fully unacceptable. It is viciously circular, if not anachronistic, to try to purge science, history, etc. of elements deemed politically unfavourable. Newton's ideology doesn't make wishing Newton away any easier, or more prudent.

My comment regarding Ft. Pillow was about them being killed under orders from Forrest after they surrendered. Anyway, my larger point was the connection between Confederate soldiers and the KKK. Now, you can talk about how there is no connection anymore, how you support the flag and Confederacy because your relatives died in that war, and I will give you that, but to say that Ft. Pillow was any other battle is not true - would be like killing prisoners of war and saying that is ok.

War is hell. They werent the first and wont be the last prisoners to be killed. Forrest was a Cavalry General and his "Mounted Army" was not really equiped to take prisoners. They went way ahead of the foot soldiers and the wagon train was miles and miles behind also. They were more of a " Raiders" type army. Prisoners are for the Rear Army to deal with. He probably had a mission and to take prisoners would make his mission untennable.

You have misunderstood me. I fly the American Flag since it still has some dignity left. I am a proud southerner myself, but the rebel flag is lost to me. The racists took it from us and it cant be saved. The swastika is a symbol of good luck in many cultures, but now its gone from us, taken by an evil prick. I'm not racist, and I refuse to be aligned with racists, so I have abandoned the Confederate Flag, for the US flag, which still has some chance of being a proud banner once more.

Also, just because there are some stains on it, the American flag hasn't been ruined yet. We are far from perfect, but we have saved just as many as we've made suffer, maybe more. KKK using it in a parade a few times isn't that bad, cause everyone uses it, but the Rebel flag is used exclusivly by southern white men. No, I don't believe that you are racist. I do, however, believe that you are letting people who do not give the issue any thought dictate what you should appreciate. A good heart weathers hate without harm and a true mind toughs adversity without consequence.

You judge a flag by the nation that has carried it. The Southern Flag is an artifact of a dead country. Now we can only judge it by the people that use it: lynryrd skynyrd, the good people of the south, and the racists that use it for thier own attention seeking needs. And, i am not dismissing the flag out of peer pressure, but out of my own moraltiy. i love the south, but i can't in good concience carry that flag while the racists still use it, can't align myslef with them. as a kid i was prejudice against others, so now i have done evrything i can to wipe that stain from our tapestry of a civilization. Racists and bigots are using the American flag every day! The point is, people like to see in black and white; good guys and bad guys. America good, Dixie bad! The real truth is that the American flag gets off scot-free because it Americans use the Confederate flag as a countermeasure. Maybe that's what the American flag represents: lies.
It is not my intention to change you. I admit I would like to see it, but that's not my aim. I just want to point out to you that you are vulnerable.
