dont get me wrong, clatpons a great guitarist. a fantastic guitarist at that, an obvious classic. who's the better guitarist is for the listener to decide, but it's more than obvious who has the better technique and chops. that doesnt neccessarily make bireli better over all but come on! obviously layla and crossroads would be much easier to learn than this piece. if you dont believe me check out those ridiculous harmonics and monster sweep bireli does. come on people!

I don't believe in absolute terminology but he is definitely a player that can make someone consider him as HIS favorite or best.

Clapton may not have played jazz like this, but he was a master of blues, which is a branch of jazz. Clapton definitely knows his stuff, just as this guy. Their both godly guitar players that have reached a level of musical immortality. Ones not better than the other.

i respect your opinion, but i have to say that bireli lagrene is in a whole another league than eric clapton. i like eric clapton and i think he is a great blues guitar player but bireli lagrene's lines are beyond most bop guitar players. I know clpaton is a blues guitar player and birlei is a jazz guitar player, but in my opinion bireli is the man. but hey, whatever moves you the most is the most important thing : )

actually blues did not come from jazz and vice verca both originated around the same time (beginning of 20thC) two vastly different genres so it's poitntless arguing. Also why is Clapton being mentioned here? good blues player not great. u want great? try peter green. as for jazz/rock only Ritchie Blackmore made the transition. for evidence try 'Wring that neck' bilzen jazz festival 1969 video on youtube.
