We went to Norway to interview Gaahl, lead singer of the band Gorgoroth. Gaahl really believes in this whole ideology behind what he's doing—he's not just some rockstar fronting a band. The thing with Black Metal is, in Norway, everybody is exactly the same. There's nothing to rebel against, because everybody's really well off. It's one of the richest countries in Europe. There is no lower class, it's like middle-class white kids everywhere—no one has anything to complain about. And he's this sort of eccentric figure amidst this sea of contentment and sameness. The way I see it is, in America you have guys like 50 Cent who are supposed to be the "villain." Kids like him cause they're parents hate him, and that's basically what Gaahl is. He's their musical villain so to speak. But there's a lot of different sides to the scene.

Meh, not really. The only band that's too anti-christian for me is Deicide. And if one of my friends liked them, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Who knows, I might even start listening to them eventually. I can't help it that lots of the best bands are against my religion. :P
The music, and also, in black metal's case, the atmosphere it creates is just amazing. I love black metal.

I don't mean to be advertising my band (even though it isn't really a band), but if you have the time, you should listen to the song "Black Metal Lulz" on my music myspace. I DO know that the songs on there suck, since it's just something I do when I'm bored, so it's not like I think I'm sweet or anything, but that song is actually pretty good imo. Guitar solo was mostly improv, so it's not that great. It's not true black metal or whatever, like Gorgoroth and Immortal, but whatever.
