I do value goodness and morals, but far to often in the effort do do good the truth is diluted with fantasy. You cannot allow emotion and feel-good morals to interfere with the brutally complex and important issues.
You also cannot go into a science based on observation and be expecting a certain result, because expectations dictate results no matter how subtly, this has been proven over and over again. Im sure Al Gore wants to do good, but he is blind to data by his belief in global warming.

The national science academies of G8+5 nations issued a declaration reiterating the position of the 2005 joint science academies statement reaffirming that climate change is happening and that anthropogenic warming is influencing many physical and biological systems. Among other actions, the declaration urges all nations to take appropriate economic and policy measures to accelerate transition to a low carbon society and to encourage and effect changes in individual and national behaviour.

The National Science Academy does its research intending to find that global warming is happening and that we are all going to die of it. Because they expect to find that answer, the will find a way to find it. Cool heads are needed, not hot ones.
I do not expect to change your mind on this, you are a believer and probably nothing can turn you around, but I'm a skeptic, and without proof, not computer models or graphs that try to predict the unpredictable, i refuse to fear the future.

You just agreed that The National Science Academy has achieved a consensus on the validity of global warming and yet you label me as a "believer" even though you, yourself, hold a preconceived notion that the phenomenon is false regardless of the science behind it?
What's to say you wouldn't call me a "believer" if I "believed" your word regarding global warming over the The National Science Academy?

Your wrong, i am not holding a pre-concieved notion about whether or not human action is causing global warming, I have just come to the conclusion that such warming is nothing to worry about, reguardless of the cause. ten thousand years ago it was warmer that today, and scientists called that, and i quote: The Holocene Climatic Optimum. then the fear came and you have probably never heard that one. running out of letters to write, have fun in your false fear, i hope it gives you comfort.

Do you think your statistics have any global significance? That's like walking into a theater in Phoenix and deciding that it's cold in Arizona. For a fresh outlook, google "Global warming may cause ice age in Europe." I'm sure you'll be surprised. Although Mr. Gore is by his own admission not a scientist, his credentials, including the Nobel Peace Prize, are extensive. Read his biography. This is directed at oilhammer's nonsense as well.

The amount of mercury in these lamps is miniscule, but yes there are millions of them going into landfill. This is not how mercury passes into the environment or the food chain however, so don't fret about it.
Virtually all unnatural concentrations of environmental mercury are the result of industrial processes such as coal burning and scrap smelting, which vaporize mercury and disperse it into the atmosphere via the smokestack. Lightbulbs in landfill don't do this. Get over it.

It doesn't really matter what he specifically does. Many of the things that must be done cannot be done by an individual alone. If you plug in an electronic gizmo you don't know where the energy for that comes from. Government needs to make policy, and for that, the people need to demand it.
