I'm sorry to say, I think it is already to late. GM exec's are a bunch of greedy screw ups.
They were to busy ... ( 2 weeks ago by jvmalum)
They were to busy watching their personal bank accounts swell, (as did their heads) to notice what was going wrong with the company they were supposed to be overseeing. My feeling is that IF they build this car, Honda or Toyota will out do it by building one all electric w/ 200 or 300 mile range as Tesla Motors has already apparently done.
Tesla did build the ... ( 2 weeks ago by kndrice)
Tesla did build the vehicle you speak of--but the sale price is expected to exceed $100,000. And the fact is that the Volt, when used with 4 gallons of gas(or Ethanol) gets a 200+ mile range.
Let's face the facts that GM's employee cost averages $70 per worker vs Toyota's $40 per worker. The problem is not with management but overpaid union workers. I think they should bankrupt to reorganize, but note their tech advances in the meantime.
you are correct ... ( 2 weeks ago by jvmalum)
you are correct about the sale price being 100,000.00, however you must consider that What Tesla has built is a bunch of hand made custom sports cars, where as GM is planing a production car. I think that would easily explain the difference in cost. I also agree w/ you on the Unions, each empl. prob cost over 100.00 per hr., but when you factor it all in, says to me POOR management, after all they are directly responsible for all of the decisions that created their present circumstances.
the Volt is a ... ( 2 weeks ago by emforty2)
the Volt is a desperate science project of GM only because no ones buying SUVs
If the economy is not down and gas less than $2 a gallon
we would not see this project from GM as they would be hawking high profit HUMMERS and SUVs
GMs management and the one on the top is to blame not the workers

GM could have dominated the EV world if they had not killed the electric car in the 90's. Now they're playing catch up.

Toyota sold the ... ( 2 weeks ago by liveoilfree)
Toyota sold the RAV4-EV, why was GM afraid to sell the EV1???
The real reason, GM is STILL KILLING THE ELECTRIC CAR, still lying, still a sham.

...if we plug this car in wont we be using more coal??? or w/e power supply were on?
and realistically no one i know looks like they can afford this. it wont be till 2020 or even later until the masses get green vehicles.
Gm makes the hummer and other suvs, they actually were opposed to making fuel efficient vehicles and thats a main reason their sales have slumped over the past year.

It's exactly what they should be doing. Supply and demand.
Not everyone's a tree-hugger, sorry.

They will capter 11 ... ( 1 week ago by jvmalum)
They will capter 11, and then they'll reorganize and be back. Those guys are so crying the blues, OH! were gonna die and so will the United States of America if you don't give us 25,000.000.000.00. They would say/lie absolutely anything to get their hands on/steal all that money from the tax payers. I'll say this for them, they recognize opportunity when they see it. Greed is soooooo good at that. Theres only so many cars to make and someone WILL make them HERE in the U.S., doesn't matter who.

I guess you didn't ... ( 1 week ago by robertg222)
I guess you didn't hear about the hybrid full size SUV GM has on the market. A full size pickup hybrid should be hitting the streets in January. They may not be leading the pack but they are not opposing making fuel efficient vehicles.
Ah! So it'll do 48 ... ( 1 week ago by TwinMountain)
Ah! So it'll do 48 to 50 mpg on a total fill-up and a flat out run to dead empty. That's good if the car is reliable.
Also, if it's true the electricity costs about 20% what gas does, it's true that most people only do 40 miles a day or less. Could be good but it IS late.
Fuck GM, Fuck Volt ... ( 1 day ago by TormentedSinKrazed)
Fuck GM, Fuck Volt (Not all electric), Fuck 'em because they did it to themselves. I want to kick the GM management in the balls. Now they want a bailout, fuck 'em. They shit our hopes out on the pavement with the EV-1. Now they can die as they realize they are idiots for not doing the right thing.
