Sega brought a new character onto its home console in the form of a dolphin. At first it looks like a kids game but it hides some seriously frustrating challenges. For some its a cakewalk but for most it will take awhile to complete the game. The success of Ecco the Dolphin led to its inevitable sequel "The Tides of Time." A third installment would soon see the light on the Dreamcast entitled "Ecco: Defender Of The Future" which IMO was and still is a wonderful game.

This was the first video game i ever had. My dad would stay up all night trying to beat it. He made it to the machine and never got passed it. Every now and then I'd try and couldn't do it. Until like 12 years later I finally beat this fucking game. It was such an awesome moment cause my dad and I never played catch. We played Ecco.

This game used to bring me into another world because of the music. Relaxing, but almost depressing.

Ok, I'm gonna go out on an limb here and just say something I've seriously been thinking about: If done well (& I mean like "Peter Jackson/Lord of the Rings quality) wouldn't a film based on Ecco be something seriously jaw-dropping?! I mean, if you've played/seen ECCO on Dreamcast you really got a crazy-mind-blowing trip thru the ocean and quite a cinematic one at that! ...ok, -minus the REALLY HORRID story they threw together for that version... they should've stuck w/this story/Ecco II's. :)

This game was very good for the time...although it had very scary moments of randomness.
What I'm surprised is that this game never got any credits for it's musical masterpiece. Even if the genesis wasn't having the greatest sounds, the soundtrack of that game was made awesome... In the best soundtracks of game history IMO.
