both versions are great in their own respect. John's is a lot chiller and so much better to listen to when your feeling down. Petty's version is a lot faster and happier, so if your in a good mood, might as well listen to that one
personally i like John's better, only because i think the lyrics to the song fit the slower and chiller version that John came up with. but thats just my opinion =P

sad to say petty has a way stronger voice and since this is technically a rock song petty is better. its good but john doesn't have the voice for the free falling part.

i mean i love the books, but they're not THAT good.
it was repetitive, awkward, and the whole suspense leading up to a battle that never even happened was pointless. i didn't like the happy ever after, either.
anyway, love john mayer.
the original version of the song just doesn't give me chills like this one does (nothing wrong with tom petty, i liked his too)
and, a cover isn't SUPPOSED to be exactly like the original song.

LOL wow butthurt much, Metal is the most advanced type of music. I'm saying hes alright, many metalheads would say he sucks. Do you understand the techniques a death metal artist uses? I bet you don't cause you haven't been up to that level and perspective of music. You haven't looked @ the solos and the riffs. The deathly growls and the transition to screams their are many techniques so get your facts straight and gigity gigity off of youtube.
