I watched him when I was a child in the 1960s. Guess I quit watching sometimes in the 4th grade. Too bad that they could not do reruns of Capt. Kangaroo.

This is smokin'! And to think that Mr Keeshan lived about 15 minutes east of me on Long Island. These guys were role models and you think they're other-worldly when, in fact, they're just doing a job they love and getting lots of recognition for it.

Yeah my mom was in love with Jack Lalane back then. I was pissed when CBS took The Captain off the air to replace him with The Morning Show even tho I had stopped watching him by that time. He was a part of my childhood and hated to see him go. I used to watch him and a show called The Friendly Giant. Those were great smart live shows.
Yeah u could be out playing from breakfast to dinner and noone worried back then. Heck u didnt even start home till u heard ur mom call u for the third time.

I'm just wondering if that music intro has a name. It sounds kinda classical, but not quite in a Beethoven or Mozart way.

The original theme song to Captain Kangaroo (titled Puffin' Billy) was used from 19551974. It was an instrumental, written by Edward G. White. The track was from a British stock music production library known as the Chappell Recorded Music Library which was sold through a New York agency called Emil Ascher. The tune's original title referred to a British steam locomotive.
