Arthur Clarke - Fractals - The Colors Of Infinity 1 of 6

Uploaded by: do5e
Video Description:
Arthur C. Clarke presents this unusual documentary on the mathematical discovery of the Mandelbrot Set (M-Set) in the visually spectacular world of fractal geometry. This show relates the science of the M-Set to nature in a way that seems to identify the hand of God in the design of the universe itself. Dr. Mandelbrot in 1980 discovered the infinitely complex geometrical shape called the Mandelbrot Set using a very simple equation with computers and graphics.

Well I see what you ... ( 2 months ago by DaveODrisc)
Well I see what you are getting at but it seems you(and all pantheists)are making your own definition of "God"
That's one of the basic problems I have with "God".
People often use the word to talk about all manner of vastly differing concepts.
It appears to be a semantic argument.
I wanna try and get this as a screen saver !

I find this subject ... ( 2 months ago by DaveODrisc)
I find this subject totally fascinating and I knew that anybody who is religious in nature might appreciate the grandeur of what it implies also.
Infinity suggests(or can at the very least imply)that anything can be possible(including maybe even some kind of GOD.)
Mind you infinity also suggests that ANY GOD can be possible and that there may be an infinite amount of Gods with infinite variation and......well.
Look I'm gonna stop here before I give myself a brain ache !!!!!!
It's COOL !!!!
Mandelbrot ( ... ( 2 months ago by grimesgw)
Mandelbrot (knowingly or not, although he is aware of him) almost entirely lifted his theory of fractal geometry from Ralph Nelson Elliott, discoverer of the Elliott Wave Principle, which posits that mass human psychology regulates financial markets, which makes predicted the course of a market by way of probabilities possible.

The "Elliot wave principle"sounds interesting!
Is it the same kind of thing as the Mandelbrot set in some sort of a way?
Is it to do with fractals applied to financial markets or is it something different?
I'll see if I can look it up.
"Smoking a fat one" ... ( 2 months ago by enderswatch)
"Smoking a fat one" is a way to only "feel" that you have gained understanding; an illusion that will need replenishing. In this way, the "Illumined" can keep knowledge away from you and replace it with chemicals, natural or synthetic. The governments of the world have knowledge of all sorts of fun secrets. The people don't care, they are entertained and pacified. Get sucked into the void and believe it's God.

Once upon a time. I tended to just vomit at them and get chased away, sometimes not by angry mobs but biological geometrical grids. I don't go out much now--read a lot of Mr. Clarke's work.

to say that it doesnt prove god is to say nothing. it doesnt prove spaghettios but we know they exist. it doesnt prove there is a giant spaghettio which is made up of an infinite amount of spaghettios, but it does prove there is an infinite geometry in which infinite geometries exist. which somehow take the shape of spaghettios and your spoon, and your face and the galaxy and every universe... how that proves god... is irrelevant. submit. splitapieceofwoodandyouwillfindme, liftanyrockandiamthere
