It's about Media and Violence.Did you ever wonder why Paul is able to give winks to the audience?He's the only one in the movie who's aware of beeing in one and blurs the line between fiction and reality.
I also think the first movie has the better Actors.
Ulrich Mühe is just the better actor see also in The Lives of Others.
BTW Mühe and Suzanne Lothar were really married at that time

I'm not really sure about the violence in media theory. When I watched it, I felt it was a metaphor for how filthy rich people are and how purely animalistic their greed is and how it consumes them and ultimately kills them. I mean, the boys motivations weren't ever clear, just like how it doesn't make any sense for rich people to strive to gain more and more...

no see i think it was abou the pointlessness of the violance in todays society the boys who do the torturing and what not reprecenting that but i think your wright about how its not about media violance but then again the film can be viewd from many diferent perspectives

Yes it was the exact same locations. They even used the same blu-prints for the house for both films. They are the exact same movie, the only differences are the actors and the language. Even the camera shots and run-time are the exact same.

well the "remake" was made with the concept of the perfect American family, that's why it was done just exactly like the older but with Hollywood actors.(for that Michael Haneke didn't want to just rerun the old movie).
well the movie is a way to break through that perfection, the perfection that society imposes and ending disgusted

the only difference between the two that ive noticed is the actors. im pretty sure they used the same script. even down to the imagery.
