Amazing footage! Amazing quality! There's not as much ELIZABETH as I thought there would be, though. But Wow!!! The quality! As if it was taken with a digital camera. The MARY has always been my favourite, and you tend to wonder if ELIZABETH would still be around today if it wasn't for that bloody fire.

Excellent, Well Done, Bravo! Love that stern view from the waterline. Such beautiful proportions, such perfection and serenity! I'm Quite sure that "HUGE" has never been expressed with such grace and dignity. The Normandie is rightfully praised, but even she shows some very awkward angles. The Conte di Savoiia was lovely in a similar way, but plump and cartoonish. For me The Queen Elizabeth is really the ultimate ship, THE transatlantic. Thank you!

I took a tour of the original Queen Elizabeth when she was docked at Ft. Lauderdale in the 1960s and I was very impressed. A lot of American GIs sailed to England on her and the Queen Mary during WWII because they could easily outrun the Nazi U-boats who preyed on our ships. I was very sorry to hear it a year or two later when she capsized in Hong Kong harbor where I think she still rusts away. What a sad end for such a great ship.

The Queen Elizabeth (re-named Seawise University) was refloated and cut up at the breakers yard. In its heyday the ship performed a sterling service but it never had the same amount of fame as its sister the Queen Mary (with regards to speed records)but it has obviously proved popular enough for it to be 're-born' in the autumn of 2010.

And apparently its not even going to have a number in its name, even though the QE2 will still be in existence. The new ship should be named the Queen Elizabeth 3. Cunard (Carnival) is apparently going with just "Queen Elizabeth". Its like they're assuming nobody remembers the original ship, even though there are still a lot of people around who sailed on it or saw it in person.

It caught fire in Hong Kong in 1972. It had to be scrapped. Wikipedia and liner sites go into further detail

I don't see why Cunard should include an arabic numeral after the name of the new Queen Elizabeth. Yes the QE2 will still be in existance - though I strongly disagree that Cunard has brushed the first QE to the wayside - When I sailed on the QE2 there was quite a lot of memorabilia and artefacts from the first Queen Elizabeth

The QE 2 is now in Dubai as a floating hotel. Queen Mary 2 is now the queen of the seas. sad that QE1 met such a ignoble end.
