For the last several years, I have had a special relationship with a Styrofoam Head. We get along very well and never argue (in part because she rarely talks back.) When I have free time or am procrastinating or trying to de-stress, I practice making balloons hats. The Styrofoam Head models them and I take photos so I remember the design. Some are very practical designs that I will make while working at parties; some are theoretical, testing what the balloon is capable of doing.
The main point is simply to practice, to keep my chops up and to come up with new ideas. Practice, no matter what the craft, is one of the most beautiful things in the world because it allows you to check out of reality, become completely absorbed in discovery and growth, and then you return to reality reenergized and refreshed.
I have made 1000's of hats for/with the Styrofoam Head over the years and have never really shared them before. Here are around 40 or so, made between 2003 and last week.
