The saucy Arethusa (1st bit) is almost unique to our ears because it was written in 1843 by 'Prince' Hoare - Music Hall artiste. It is therefore genre music of its day and has only been preserved for our ears by this setting. it's contemporraries have been lost rendering it unusual to our ears.

We're playing W.J. Duhoit's (spelling?) arrangement of Fantasia of British Sea Songs in my university Wind Orchestra. When we're rehearsing this for the first time, the people in the band couldn't keep a straight face when we reached to the "Jack's the Lad" movement.

Where are the fanfares?! I'm a percussionist and the best bit is the snare and tenor drum parts at the beginning with the trumpet and horn fanfares! Though i've never seen an orchestra play it with the stage directions written in on the parts! Awesome piece!
