by far the bast film adaptation of Treasure Island.
it should have been released in theathers, it could have been an even bigger success!
Until now, I'd only seen the French dubbed version, which is magnificantly dubbed.

Absolutely agree with you. It'd be difficult to imagine how the great story could be better told on film. Wonderful. And it's not the acting that makes it (perfect though it almost all is); it's the authentic script that wins it - at least for me.
Obviously, those two things are in harmony (actors and adaptation - which is rare), which means that Fraser Heston created, I reckon, the greatest retelling of a classic since Lean's "Great Expectations". And that WAS a classic.

It`s interesting how only one word from the doctor that he was a magistrate was enough to make the cruel pirate to keep his mouth shut.
I thought that a pirate is a pirate exactly because he doesn`t care about magistrates, law, etc.This moment in the story always puzzles me when I read the book or watch the movie.
Anyway, I have always liked how the cool doctor taught the pirate to stay quiet.

Do you know that "Treas. Isl." has a kind of a "successor-book" , written somewhere in the 1980s by an author named Dennis Judd (not sure about the spelling) and entitled "The Story of the Long John Silver". The author uses all the hints that R.L.Stevenson gives about the earlier life of Silver, incl. his aqcuaintance and adventures with Pew, Flint, Billy Bones . There`s even about his wife -the old black-skinned lady which Silver mentions in "Tr. Isl.".

Dennis Judd describes Silver as a brave, intelligent and comparatively educated (for his time) man, who wanted to travel, to see the world, etc. , but his father was against. This made Silver escape from home and the road to piracy, murders and cruelties proved not that long. Judd so skilfully uses everything that R.L.S. gives that even explains why Ben Gunn so much likes cheese - because before becoming a sailor Ben was a shepherd.
I recommend you Judd`s book - it`s worhty!
