I dont know if he was the greatest. But he is the most under rated by far. The way he used chords to play leads while the other sang just thrill me too. He reminds me of Paul Simon. Other than Clapton I cant see anyone else playing "Till There Was You" like the royal performance version. Even on the "pop" songs like she loves you or hold your hand his chord use and the timing he used hasnt been done since. Maybe Clapton today can compare but George set the standards for sure.

IMHO, I don't think Clapton ever reached George's level, but I'm not as familiar with Eric as I am with George.

wot crap, im a huuuge beatles fan but george was NOT the greatest lead guitarist of all time. none of the beatles considered themselves to be great instrumentalists. it was their songwriting that they are acclaimed for. george nowhere near matched up to other lead guitarists such as clapton, hendrix, jimmy page, joe satriani etc.

George was not one of the great players, technically, but was as
inventive with his guitar styles and lead parts as the other two were
with their songwriting (sorry, ringo!). He inspired tons of rock players
to first pick up the guitar (and also inspired Roger Mcguinn to go out
and purchase a Rickenbacker 12-string (it's true, you can look it
up:>)

Certainly did. A bit of a twattish observation but IMHO their 'mop top' period hair was at its best in the second half of '65. I often wonder how much hair spray John used to keep that fringe in place!

As has been said elsewhere, none of the Fabs were technical virtuosos, but *what* they played/composed was unique; the solos, backing and lead vocals, drumming are all indispensable parts of those songs. Buddy Rich didn't call Ringo a "genius" for nothing.

By the way, George's dynamics and articulation - as well as totally memorable solos - are part of what set him apart, in my opinion. Try playing that descending figure in 'Help!' or the guitar part to 'Here Comes The Sun' and you'll see how distinctive the ways he played those were - playing those otherwise makes them sound more conventional.

george want to be conventional sound he never play the guitar like...i dont know...jimmy page for exapmle,he play good, very good but he dosnt play like a best,jimmy was good too.

Like what was before the beatles? People like woody gurthrie. They were like the missing link between what they listened to & hard rock, chuck berry didnt make rock, the beatles did. they basically had no one to look to, we have everyone tolook to, like the beatles, zeppelin, Skynyrd & much more. they had noone they made it.

Many of their songs were copies of rhythm and blues that were originally done by black American bands who could not get the type of publicity that the Beatles did. The Beatles freely admitted that those different bands had written and performed the songs previously.
