20 years is a long time to develop and explore different sounds, especially since trent reznor is a progressive and meticulous artist.

Like I said before I was checking them out. I didn't realize that in order to listen to music I had to research the music to when it was written and performed by the artist. Since you brought up Metallica, their music has changed. Some of their best music was performed in the 80's, I'll admit that. If in fact that this song was released 20 years ago, oh around the time that you were being born, I see that you listen to older songs or else you wouldn't be listening to this one.

wow, seriously hate to say this, but i don't like phm, I WORSHIP every other nin album, but phm sounds so....different, really sounds more like a twisted 80s album, but it's not the nin i've come to love.

1Chancho2, I only got into NIN a few years ago, I love the lyrics and yes they have lots of different styles. On PHM there's a point where Trents voice imo sounds like Marc from Soft Cell and so does the song but I like it. Sometimes it takes years to get into an album if we ever do. I like PHM very much tho didn't at first, it's very easy listening and well put together, ringfingers brilliant imo and the only time, whole albums tops, very electro pop, quite discoey but nice chilled out sounds.

I'm 'getting on a bit'lol and was growing up in uk in the 70's. I like punk but also metal and all the rest too.There was always some sort of division between the two imo music crosses the divide and I loathe gender stereotyping in music and at all.I recently read some crap about the Stranglers and other bands being like 'boy' music.Fxakes I must be a boy then, funny that I have been mistaken for 1. I like Trents voice he puts a lot into his music and I like that, lyrics are excellent at times.

I feel partly the same way. I like the album, but it seemed so much like everything else at the time, plus the songs were a little more immature as far as the meanings. BUT, to be fair, this is one of Trent's first albums.
