Robert Wyatt actually singing "Pig" live with the Soft Machine is a true rarity, warts and all. The rest is pretty cool too, particularly the Hatfield and the North sit-ins.

i am sorry the footage in wich RW sings PIGS with the Softies as a trio was a playback broadcasted in november 1969 on french TV for the evening news. despite this, it was a big shock for me. but the jam at the end with Hatfield and the north was performed live for french TV; one of the shot with Soft Robert walking.

I love today's Robert Wyatt too. His vocaling 'after' Soft Machine is super, full of sadness and gentleness.

A playback? You mean they lip-synced? Nope, it sounds very raw compared to the studio version, and even if one may argue that Wyatt may have pre-recorded his vocal, I still think he would have done a better job. It's obvious he struggles to drum and sing simultaneously. Ergo, I definitely think this is live.

Wyatt's vocal and drumming along with Kevin Ayers' bass work really made the Soft Machine so unique and exciting, I really loved their first album!!! I didn't have any idea they were both such good looking babes back then.
