The Byrds were ... ( 1 year ago by Meese42)
The Byrds were around from 64/65 onwards. This is probably the best performances from this gig in '67, some of the others are truly awful. Any coincidence Gene Clark had not long left? I enjoy them live, but they were definitely better in the studio.

Maybe they did some bad gigs and have gotten a bad rep for their concerts. After watching this clip I don't believe its bad at all. Also consider Gene Clark has already gone. For the most part its a pretty good live recording I think.

I was reading up on The Byrds, and they first formed around New year's Day in '64.
For two years, the band featured Dave Crosby, Chris Hillman, Gene Clark, Michael Clarke, and Jim(Roger) McGuinn, before undergoing several changes in the lineup, until they split in 1973.
Gene Clark passed away in 1991, and Michael Clarke died in '93.

When they recorded ... ( 11 months ago by RedAce8003)
When they recorded Mr. Tambourine Man Jan 20, 1965, only McGuinn played his instrument - the rest were studio musicians including Glen Campbell and Leon Russell.
Hillman and Clarke were added later.
There were enough Byrds to form 3 bands. Some greats, Gram Parsons, Clarence White, Gene Clark - all gone. McGuinn, White, Battin, and GENE Parsons was a dynamite live band (hear their CD "Live at The Fillmore" and the live side of their "Untitled" album) and the longest-lasting Byrds lineup.

I was doing a little bit of research on some of the latter Byrds members, and discovered that Skip Battin(who was also the half of the 50's duo, Skip & Flip), lost his battle with Alzheimer's on 7/6/03, at the age of 69.
Battin retired from The Byrds(Celebration) in late '97, sometime after their gig at the Ravalli County Fair in Hamilton, MT, on 8/30/97.
I had the pleasure to see them at the fair and enjoy the smooth harmonies, like of that of the original band.

I've seen McGuinn live a couple of times in the last few years. He is still one awesome guitarist.

They did Turn Turn Turn on Ed Sullivan - for the life of him he couldn't remember the lyrics - ripped to the gills. They finally just kept the camera off him.

I took some once. It... didn't work out too good.
It's like hyper-strength LSD, and the trip hangs on for about three days. It then takes about a month to get yourself back together. It might sound nice, but it's actually like suddenly becoming seriously mentally ill for a while. Really, really horrible.

Funny, but the other day someone mentioned that the only time I use the "F" word is when I talk about the army and the draft. LOL The 60's were great: great movies, great music, lots of new changes,, until the letter arrived. And,,for me Lyndon Johnson was president, then later Nixon, what a deal!
