I'm wondering how ... ( 8 months ago by loodwig)
I'm wondering how we could correct these people, or if that should be our goal. Clearly it isn't a deterrent, whether by virtue of the fact people believe they won't get caught, or by fact that they don't really mind prison (pick one, either or both are possible). So if prisons are really a destructive institution that will serve to harm our society, what is the alternative? On a Franklin Balance Sheet, would we be better with fines and community service alone? Or should we bring back stockades?

I feel sympathy for criminals and any individual who during life must be detained within any solitary confinement. However, although many innocent individuals have also experienced such detachment and isolation from society a truth remains unspoken of.
They very important thinker Viktor E. Frankyl in his Man in search of Meaning states that of all human freedoms, the power of thought, choice and understanding can never be comfiscated nor obliterated.

I once read an article with respect to the horification of WW2. It entirely stultified my conscience. Several Rabbis were imprisoned and deliberately starved to death by a group of SS officers. Upon returning to the cell they were entirely baffled and overwhelmed at the sight of the starving Rabbis that had been singing songs and praising God. Lo, despite all deliberately inflicted pain the Rabbis were singing songs in prison and yet free men they were. Shortly after did they die.

Alectr0n, many. Many upon many. Parents are fine and dandy when you're child, but a grown man must make decisions for himself, even if that decision is to slice up or rape an innocent person.

Of course an adult is responsible for his/her actions and should be punished accordingly if we wish to retain a stable society.
I just wonder how many violent criminals had positive role models growing up?

I always thought that after the first part of the movie, the main character was in the dream world, and dead. I also thought this guy is actually dead too. When the camera pans away, you notice the prison is empty; no guards or fellow prisoners. It is some state of mind this guy died in, and remains trapped in after death.
I like that. So ... ( 2 months ago by poderosocosme)
I like that. So always work to get yourself in the greatest state of mind possible, and always be the most positive and best you can be, because maybe if you die, you'll actually stay in the state of mind of the moment of your death forever. No turning back then. Only turning back now.

I think the main character isn't supposed to be dead or alive. Maybe he is a dream character and the audience is supposed to be the ones dreaming.
